Dutch-based artists Machinegewehr and Ayden Vice team up to bring that timeless retro Italo vibe with Moroder inspired bass arpeggiation, mysterious vocals and epic pads.

On the B side, San Francisco based Dutch artist, Yobkiss, offers up a masterful remix taking the track into darker electro territory. His offering includes beautifully haunting Japanese vocals by the producer’s long time collaborator Yuko Araki for exceptional exotiqueness.

INTERVIEW

HAMADARAKA

We had the pleasure of interviewing Tokyo based Eru and Emu Arizono (HAMADARAKA) regarding the things that really matter: art, music, and booze:

As twin sisters, what was it like growing up in Japan and deciding to work together as artists?

Our father worked at an art supply store specializing in artists, so there were a lot of painting materials around us. We painted and played together since we were very very young. In the process of growing together it was natural that we ended up drawing together too!

The twisting serpents on the cover of our first record, what do they represent to you?

We painted that snake just awakened, it swallowed dawn and began to unwind.

So they swallowed the sunrise and that gave them energy to move? How did you come up with that?

They are snakes that live with the air and light of dawn. They use that energy to wake up and their bodies themselves reflect the light. When we are painting, we meet dawn frequently. In that time frame, we often feel an energy from between the night and the morning which is fascinating! The transparent atmosphere is hard to describe which is what inspired us for this particular piece.

Are there any Japanese musicians you really like that you think we should check out?
